New Sculpture
My newest sculptural pieces, entitled “An Exploration of Identity” and “An Exploration of Color” respectfully, were originally to be a cohesive piece, two halves of a whole. Once they were finished, however, I found them to stand better as two individual pieces.
“Identity” is different every new way you look at it, in every new space, just as we are. It can seem to grow the longer you look at it, and depending on the lighting, can take on color beautifully.
”Color” has a new shade on every side, but maintains a neutral base. Just as we all can seem to take on many different versions of ourselves, we have our baseline. Maybe it’s not the first thing we see, but it’s grounding, familiar, and when we’re wrapped up in our too many colors, it can help us to remember who we are.
The last piece, entitled “And How Are We Today?” was an experiment in alternative mediums, like clay and mirror. A bit on the nose, but I wanted to play with reflection, and all of what that can entail. Self reflection, literal reflection, and internal reflection. The title’s question being an homage to how one stereotypically starts a therapy session. The story of reflection is what I wanted to display. I loved this experiment so much, I plan to keep working with these mediums, as well as infinity mirrors, and see where this takes me.
